What Is the NDA Attempt Calculator?

UPSC conducts the NDA exam twice a year — NDA I in April and NDA II in September. Lakhs of students apply every year, but most do not know exactly how many chances they have left.

The reason is simple: UPSC does not put a fixed cap on the number of attempts. Your eligibility is determined entirely by your age. If you fall within the 16.5 to 19.5 years window on the course commencement date, you can appear. Once you age out, your window closes.

This NDA attempt calculator takes your date of birth (as printed on your Class 10 certificate) and shows you every NDA exam you are eligible for from 2025 to 2030, which ones are already past, and how many attempts are left.

Who Should Use This Calculator?

  • Class 11 or 12 students planning ahead for NDA
  • Candidates who have already given 1–2 attempts and want to know how many are left
  • Parents checking whether their child is still within the NDA age window
  • Female candidates — now eligible to apply after the Supreme Court order in 2021

How Are NDA Attempts Calculated?

UPSC calculates your age against the course commencement date, not the exam date. For NDA I, this is 1 January of the following year. For NDA II, it is 1 July of the following year.

You are eligible for an exam if you will be at least 16 years and 6 months, and no more than 19 years and 6 months, on that course start date.

Since UPSC sets no cap on the number of attempts, the total number of attempts you get is simply the count of NDA exams that fall within your personal age window. Most candidates get 4 to 6 attempts depending on their date of birth.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many NDA attempts do I get?+
UPSC does not cap NDA attempts by number. Your eligibility is decided purely by age — you must be between 16.5 and 19.5 years on the course start date. Most candidates born in the eligible range get 4 to 6 total attempts.
Do OBC / SC / ST get extra NDA attempts?+
No. UPSC provides no age relaxation or extra attempts for any reserved category in the NDA exam. All candidates follow the same 16.5–19.5 year age window.
Can I apply if I failed one NDA attempt?+
Yes. A failed or missed attempt does not reduce your remaining count. As long as you are within the age limit for a future exam, you can apply for it.
Can girls appear in NDA 2026?+
Yes. Since August 2021 (Supreme Court order), female candidates can apply for NDA. The same age, qualification, and marital status rules apply — 16.5 to 19.5 years, 12th pass or appearing, and unmarried.
What subjects are required for Navy and Air Force?+
Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics (PCM) in Class 12 are mandatory for Navy and Air Force wings. Army accepts candidates from any stream.
